Well written and very informative. That killed the story for me.
But like I said, it helped make it an easier read and I really felt like I learned a lot from the time period. Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read. Refresh and try again. Worse than this, they feel they have to draft-in every historical person they can think of from the period, which is nothing more than tediously pretentious name-dropping and turns me right off a novel. The story is so well told and i would recommend the book to anyone looking to cast an eye through a historical pinhole.

Lists with This Book. It tried to make me cry a few times, but didn’t really succeed, and some of the dialog didn’t quite feel 16th century to me.
Even in her circumstance, she is happy. Subscribe to our newsletter Some error text Name. Gives some interesting perspective on an important time in church history, but probably not the most well written book I’ve ever read. Now the balance g tipped negatively and I think I am no longer inclined to pick up any more such titles, lackluster as they’ve been!

Darlene rated it liked it Nov 08, Vantrease has written about the protestant movement in the 16th century in all her books. Of interest to me was a new perspective of Sir Thomas More, not as the long-suffering chancellor who becomes a martyr himself rather than aid Henry’s mission ls break with Rome and establish himself as head of the church in order to divorce Katharine and marry Anne.
Other than learning about John Frith as a very minor character associated with William Tyndale, there was nothing new to me. Enjoyed it quite a bit! I enjoyed the full development of Kate’s character. Really really slow, but good for understanding how it was back then to be able to read the Bible by yourself, and martyrs who did that. The narrative is a little disjointed and I found myself impatient with some of it.
I think it would have been tedious to have read this in the same English which Shakespeare knew, or in which the King James Bible was written, but there had to be a happier compromise than this one.
The author couldn’t decide. Maybe this is a romance novel.
